The essential function of the position within the organization is to serve as legal advocate and counsel for the interests of the circuit. The position is responsible for staff supervision, providing legal counsel, formulating updating and implementing policies to comply with statutory and rule requirements, and performing administrative functions including statistical case status reporting and review of administrative orders. The position also serves as legal liaison with the Office of the State Courts Administrator and advises the Trial Court Administrator on personnel, contracts, ethics and public records issues. The position formulates long range goals for the organization based upon legal requirements and information obtained from court system databases, develops policy and position papers, and works with elected officials, including local government. Works under the general supervision of the Trial Court Administrator or their designee.

 

Education, Experience, Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Seven years of related work experience, including extensive working knowledge of Florida State Courts System operations. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis, excluding supervisory experience.
  • Member in good standing with the Florida Bar.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the legal processes involved in each section of the Court System.
  • Knowledge of business and professional relationships and ethics involved among courts, judges, attorneys, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Knowledge of the principles of administration, office management, system analysis and computer applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cooperative atmosphere with judges, attorneys, constitutional officers, and administrative staff functioning within a judicial circuit.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain and monitor a caseload like that of the trial court staff attorneys.
